Post subject:  I need a new boom for an old Hobie 16

I've posted here a few times before. I got an old Hobie 16 last Thanksgiving and have had a lot of fun on it. I have made some repairs along the way as the boat has been put back into service. Well, yesterday I took advantage of a nice WSW wind to sail off from Garcon Point into East Bay. After turning to head back to shore I heard a pop and looked up to notice that...wait for it...the boom had cracked! I limped back to shore with the jib and very little pressure on the mainsail.

In all fairness, this boom appeared to have been "bandaged" long before I got it. My question is, are there still booms for sale for an older boat? Anyone out there have one that they want to sell or should I check Craig's List the way I did for a new [to me] sail? Would the local Hobie dealer be the best choice?

Any advice would be helpful.

I have a boom from my 1985 Hobie that I don't need. I bought a used sail from someone that included the boom so the old one is surplus. It has a single bale (spelling?) so it uses the 5 to 1 blocks. My new one has 2 bales and uses the 6 to 1 block which I also got with the sail. I don't know how to get the boom to you but I am in North Carolina if you get up this way.

Howard,

Do you still have the boom? I am interested in Washington, NC.

Please email me at aschaffter[REMOVE]@suddenlink.net

I see by your profile that you are a woodworker, too. Are you a member of NCWoodworker.net? I am Alan in little Washingon.

I found one here locally. Thanks to all for the responses. I should be back in business by next weekend.
