Post subject:  Soft spots....

Hi All,

First off thanks for everyone's input on this forum. I am a newbie with an H16. I have scoured the posts and gotten tons of useful info. My boat is an '82 in good condition other than some "soft spots". There is much discussion regarding these on this forum. However, most of the info seems geared at soft spots on the top of the hulls. My boat has a couple of places on the sides of the hulls. I am wondering if these are of equal concern. There is one on the inside of the port hull centered between the bow and stern and also one on the outside of the starboard hull forward of the tramp. They are both about 4" by 8". I have been sailing the boat some but I am not sure if I should repair these asap or if I can wait a while. Also is the process the same (outline area, drill small holes around perimeter, larger hole in middle, git-rot...etc). Thanks again for all the help.

Yes, they would be a concern. My not be as critical as the area near the forward crossbar. Same repair technique. It doesn't take long and is well worth the insurance against failing a hull completely.

If the soft spot is on the outside of the hull, starting from 3 inches from the front of the hull, would it be viable to try fix, plus minus 1 foot long soft spot.

Have had too many conflicting responses, one has been to peel away the section and then refoam etc.

Thanks
