Has anyone put an H16 on their trailer backwards (and traveled w/ it) in order to use the Y bar on the trailer to give the mast that little extra lift in order to step the mast solo ![]() |

Nope. I usually have no problem stepping the mast. It's a quick process for me. ![]() -Eric |

The only problem I ever have (while the boat is trailered) is the intitial lifting of the mast . Unless someone on the ground behind the boat raises the mast just a bit while I am on the tramp, it is almost impossible to get that thing lifted. So I was thinking if the boat was trailered in reverse and I used the Y bar as my little extra bit of lift I would be OK. My real concern is trailering the boat while it is placed backwards on the trailer. |

I made a tripod out of 3 aluminum tent poles that I use to hold the mast until I raise it. It could be long enough to give you that initial height you need. I tie a line to extend the length of the jib halyard and tie the other end to the bridle. I then raise the mast, lean into it, reach down to the jib halyard cleat, and pull the halyard tight and tie it off. Lowering the mast is just the reverse. I lower the mast onto the tripod after releasing the jib halyard. |

Howard, I really appreciate the input and that is a great idea. I need a solution so when the family doesn't want to go or I can't find someone to come along I can still get out on the lake. |

I had the same problem, finding help to step the mast, ordered a mast stepper#3142 from my local Hobie dealer ( a little spendy). One could fabicate a similar assembly. The Rube Goldberg thing works GREAT!! it's easy on the boat, with the addition of some snap fasteners at the trap lines set up in less than 5 mins. -Mike- Sail# 43458 |

i rigged a pulley and tied it to the front of the trailer, I tie a line to the mainstay cable, as i step the mast holding the mast vertical i put the line and give it a few wraps around the mast and then insert the cotter pin works great. |
