I bought to boats last sept/oct and have since sold one to my father, we race each other about once a week. his sail/boom is something like 8" longer than mine and i can still beat him but boy when i sail his boat to i feel the difference! my sails are pretty whipped out (more patch than sail in some places and overall it feels like a silk bed sheet) so i'm looking at new ones. has any one tried the Calvert sails? I've read about rudder issues concerning square tops on the 16 but that doesn't concern me. My focus is on getting more power without flying a kite. https://store.catsailor.com/pc/viewPrd. ... duct=30700 |

Don't forget going with a stock Hobie sail. Whirlwind's sails are cheaper, and the owner ran Hobie's sail loft for many years, but the sail won't be class legal if you want to race in Hobie's one-design class. Whatever you go with, a new sail will improve your boat's performance compared to the old one. |

If you want a square top (which I'm considering as well for rec purposed), you can get one cheaper than a Calvert at Whirlwind. http://www.whirlwindsails.com/h16.htm |
