Post subject:  Mast Head Wheel

A wile ago I dropped the mast, and broke the single plastic wheel inside the mast head. I found a person who can make a new wheel out of aluminum, and he told me he can make it for around $70.00 My question is does anyone else have the problem with a this, and would they be interested in having one made for there mast?

No, and you can buy a whole replacement mast head for a lot less off eBay.

Most Hobie dealers have a box of them in the back room, left over from Comptip conversions.

I am still confused with what comptip conversion is. Actually I am not sure what a comptip is.
Say if I want to replace the wheel, what steps should I take to do it ?

A Comp Tip conversion is where they cut the last 5 or 6 feet off the mast, and replaced it with a fiberglass top. This way if you run into power lines, you won't get shocked.

I still have the single pice mast, and now they only come with comp tips.

I'm 98% sure that you can buy a new style masthead and halyard and use them on your older mast. I've been meaning to do this but haven't had time. Anyone done it?

I'm going to take this opportunity.

I know a few people that have done it, and it works out just fine.
