Is there a substantial diff between a 1982 H16 and a 1996 H16?

Superficially, no, but there have been a lot of minor changes to the boat that make a huge difference in ease of use:

- Rake adjustable rudder castings
- Integrated traveller tracks
- Boat is at least 20 lbs lighter
- One-piece gudeons (maybe, can't remember when they became standard)
- Hobie 20 style tiller connectors
- Low profile mainsheet system
- Longer forestay / shorter shrouds allow more mast rake
- Mast step changed to allow more mast rake
- Sails are way better constructed
- Comptip

That's a short list off the top of my head. Not to mention, that a '96 has 14 years less wear than an '82.
