I have been sailing my '83 H16 for three years and having a blast. Usually I go to the lake alone and find a stranger to pin my forstay when I lift the mast. I use a snap 2 1/2 '' snap shackle which makes it simple for whoever is helping me. My question is - is a snapshacke safe enough for this application? I did have the jib halyard slip one time when I was on the water - the forstay snapped tight and the snapshackle held at it should. |

The "forestay" is only a rigging wire on the H16... the jib becomes the "forestay" when properly tensioned. With this in mind... no problem. Use a quick shackle or pin here as long as it is not required to hold the mast up during sailing or beach storage. |
