Pre '73' H-16 age

Post subject:  Pre '73' H-16 age
OK, I know the H-16 I bought this summer with some friends is older than 1973 as the SN is stamped on the outboard sides of the front pylons. Just how old is my serial number 710??

By the way, I'm getting some pics together to post for tech advice on hull refurbishment. A real variety of conditions but all things considered, this 30something year old is in great shape. Only one soft spot on the starboard deck forward of the front pylon. We've had her out 6 times and she takes on very little water.

This is why I love these boats. They are "Da Bomb!" - no boubt-a-doubt it! Not too expensive, tons of fun, and built to last!

BTW...don't know exactly how old your boat is other than pre 1973...that's a Matt Miller or Greg Thomas question.

Likely the seven hundred and tenth boat built or something similar. I would assume it is a 70-71.

Yeah, I don't know how many boats they made in 1970 but my '72 is #3404 so it's either a '70 or '71.

I have a 14 I just bought from a guy who had it in a she for a thousand years. No serial number on the back, so where do I look for the number? And when I find it, that is the production number?

Just as with the picture above, if the s/n is not on the transom then look on the pylon. If not on the pylon then it is possible that at some point your boat was painted and the s/n was sanded off or painted over. If the original sail is with the boat you can also get an idea of the year from the sail #.

How old is Hobie 16 #710?

The 16 was introduced in August of 1970. I have to guess that it was built in 1971.
