Hi all, I just bought a 1978 Hobie 16. My son and I are going to restore her ourselves. 1. She has a small bit of damage on the port side pontoon. It will need some gelcoat repair. 2. Also she has quite a bit of oxidation on her hulls. 3. Two rips in the Trampoline, one on each side about four inches long. Also, any ideas on what to look for on an old Hobie restoration would be appreciated. ![]() Also, how do I post pics of her? Best Regards, Maury |

Congrats! I would buy a new tramp for it... I think the hobie branded one is worth the extra money as well. I don't have any hull repair experience.. but as for oxidation, I bought some paint cleaners and polish at west marine for my boat.. spent a few hours on it and I'm not sure anybody but me would have noticed the difference. posting pictures isn't too difficult, first you need to find a place to host them online where you can get a link directly to the image, then you put that link inside IMG tags, it will look like this but without the spaces: [img ]http://www.photobucket.com/yourgallery/yourpic.jpg[/img ] |

Thanks! I am pumped. I just got back from picking her up. I just had my first up close look at her. 1. There are no rips in the tramp. Yeah!!! 2. The gel coat spot I mentioned is worse than I originally thought. It is actually a full hole repair. The fiberglass is showing and is soft. Boo!!! Do you know how to do that kind of repair where I actually cut out the bad area and put new fiberglass in? I will have to do that and gelcoat the repair. Any thoughts? I have pics but I don't know how to post them here. Maury |

TheGelcoat damage is actually a hole. I need to do fiberglass work as well as gelcoat. How would you handle this? (See pic below) Thanks, Maury ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Where do you live? I know a guy here in Southern California that has a junk 1981 H16. I took look at it and the hull were in good shape and looked nice (yellow color), no soft spots. He just want it out of his yard. |

Hi John, I am totally bummed that I don't live closer. I live in Michigan. The shipping would be more than the toons are worth I imagine. This is a winter project for me. And that would have been perfect. Thanks for thinking of me. ![]() Maury |
