I need to install a new clew plate on my jib the new plate came with some rivets any idea what type of tool to use for installing these? The dealer told me to start them with a screw driver then use a hammer to finish them up. I tried that on my main sail tack and it did not work. Any Suggestions?

Aren't they just pop rivets? Pop rivet tools are found any home store. Or you can go to the hardware store and buy some #6 round head brass screws and nuts, 1/2" should do.

No they are not just pop rivets and the way the jib flaps around I would be concerned that a bolt might snag the sail and tear it. I did buy a rivet set with tool from Hobby Lobby but its a diffrent style they kinda look like the ones on blue jeans.
I used them on my old jib and they seem to hold pretty good. I just though someone here would know how to install the ones that came with the clew plate.

Is it safe to "assume" the rivets are maybe a 1/8" / 3/16 diameter and about 3/8" / 1/4" long? Sometimes they are a brass or golden color. Are they smooth head and have a very small hollow section at the other end? If so, I've found the best way to set them is to use a wide head center punch and a hammer (smooth head). Start by lining everything up with the clew plate and the rivet on a firm surface, like an anvil or other hard surface. Put the tip (point) of the center punch in the hollow end of the rivet and gently start tapping it with the hammer. This will cause the opened end of the rivet to curl or roll downward towards the clew plate. After you get the rivet curling downward you should be able to put the center punch away and finish taping the rivet with the hammer head.

Or he can just use the quick and easy pop rivets he already has (like everyone else).
