i sail a 16 solo and weigh 190, was unable to right with out aid of a 60 lb righting bag picked up online. thing works great. |

I bought a righting bag last spring but have not had a chance to try it yet. I am at 185, 51 years old. I rigged up a 3:1 pully system to help hoist the bag out of the water. Where did you tie the line to the bag to the boat? |

i just ran the rope over the hull with the other rope i used to pull the boat over holding both as i leaned out. had to wedge my self under the bag line in order to lift it and then leaned out. dont forget to uncleat jib line - i did and the thing just hovered and would not come over- after that no prob- cant wait to do it again. i dont have a pully system- i just keep bag rolled up and bungied under the boat until i need it along with a paddle (sucks when your in the middle of the lake and the wind totally dies |

REally the bag works? I'll have to try it. I can't right mine - (175 - 51 yr old) I tried also with my son in law - about 200 lbs... seems strange we couldn't - but the lower hull had water in it and kept sinking fore and aft - and I think the 1/2 sunken hull eliminated (lowered) the pivot point. Also - wasn't clear on where to aim the mast. I now figure it's the front of the boat into the wind so that the wind acts as a lift on the under side of the sail. But when we tip - it's in real windy conditions... and attemping to keep the boat rotated properly when it's that windy is a chore if not impossible... the wind blows the boat, across the lake and the extra bulk of the mast and sail just makes the rotation want to continue with the mast pointing back. Will have to try again now that I've drain the water out of the hull. I have a (I think it's called a Hawaiin? ) the cord that goes around the frame, doesn't help (yet) before I had it - I just clibed to the top of the hull and tried a line then used that. (didn't work either) so far it's required a wave runner to right us... (with a lot of power used) |

had the mast pointed into the wind and stood on the plontoon front of center to stay level took some effort but come right over its all kinda slow motion |

I am 195 lbs and 55 yrs and solo most of the time. This time of year my lake clears out and so in the past I had to back off the edge for fear of flipping and not being able to right it. I just used my Colorado righing bag yesterday and it worked slick. I make a butterfly knot in my righting line as high as I can and then clip my righting line to that. I use a single sheave racheting pulley and it was tough getting the bag high enough. But when I leaned out, it came right over. |

Good to hear - I have a rubber coated Viking dry suit bag around here that should work... to try it. I'll have to find it. |
