Post subject: | Gooseneck Bearing Kit |
I purchase a gooseneck bearing kit for my HC16 from Murrays, part number 12-2050. URL: http://www.murrays.com/archive/26.pdf It arrived today and I went straight to the boat to attach it. However, I noticed that the two plastic bearings are far too big for the slide holes. I guess to get them in I would have to give them more than a tap with a hammer and in doing so I would probably sheer off some of the bearings' plastic. I am pretty sure my gooseneck is a factory standard and I so I don't quite understand what I am supposed to do here. Thanks |

I hope I am understanding your question correctly. Yes, you may need to tap the bearings into the top and bottom of the gooseneck with a hammer. When in correctly, the outer part of each bearing should actually be the same size, if not a little larger, than the diameter of the gooseneck itself - allowing the gooseneck to move easily in the sail track. The screw then holds it all in place. Tapping it in with a hammer shouldn't take away any of the portion of the bearing that is useable. Good luck! |

I had just noticed this in the catalog and have tought about getting one. On my newer boat I can't get the gooseneck in the slot and slid down easily... I have to really fiddle with it - OR - I sail for a few minutes and then it drops down... this bearing should ease that problem? making it easier to slide down into the track? |
