Post subject: | CompTip Issues... |
Hi All, My 88 16 has a comp tip and its in decent shape, I keep it covered when not sailing but Im noticing some white chalky stains appearing here and there. It kinda looks like salt, but doesnt wash off. Is this UV damage? Anything to stop/remove it? Also theres a couple of spots where the fiberglass fabric is beginning to show a bit, is painting the comptip an option? Will that add any UV protection and chafe resistance? Thanks and keep the point side up! |

I paint my comptip every summer with flat black or clear spray paint for extra protection. It keeps it looking nice and is almost all gone by the time the season ends. |

Jim here. I use Penetrol on my comptip. I does a great job of restoring a bright black look and also adds protection. Just use a lint free rag, apply thin even coat and let dry about 24hrs. Available at Home Depot, Ace, etc. Try it, works great. I have been using it since new in 89 and still looks new. |
