My Black rudder cracked and now i have one black and one white. This bothers me so can i paint the white one or will it just peel off? Any subjestions. I will buy a black one i'm in NC but don't want to pay an extreme amount due to the fact that i don't really need it. Thanks |

I have the white lexan (I think) rudders. I painted mine black and have been very pleased with the results. My white rudders were actually yellow. I used acetone to clean the rudders. This worked very well to remove all the yellowing. I then purchased one can of spray paint from Lowes made specifically for plastic. So far the black paint has held up extremely well through the entire summer. There is only one scratch and that is from rubbing the rudder against the corner of my shed while moving the boat around.......and even that did not take the paint all the way down to the white. Just scuffed the paint. |

My rudders were extremely yellowed so I painted them the same color as my decks and sails with Krylon Fusion. Fusion is specially formulated for plastics. For the most part it has held up fine with no peeling or scaling at all. The problems are the at the lower castings. As the rudders rotate up and down the aluminum casting scrapes the paint away in a semi-circle. Also, the lower forward edge where the sand kicks up the rudders is bare. I don't know that there is anything you can do to prevent either. |

Well if you're going to paint the rudders then go whole hog and get funky! Red, yellow, stripes, graphics (how about a shark biting the rudder?), swirls, etc. |

I've only seen him do rudders. This guy's classic. He's about 25, and lives on his Hobie 18 in a tent all summer long right at the point. He sails all over the local coast surfing and catching fish. |

"Classic"? In my town we'd call that guy "homeless." But, I'm not knocking it, and Santa Cruz is an exception in nearly every category, and it seems to work down there. So if I get him to do my rudders will he accept fish as payment, or is the currency still hemp and beads? |
