Well, I struck out with another Hobie search. After a long drive I had a boat in my sights. I arrived with cash (or the equivalent) fully expecting to be towing a boat home. Well, the trailer lights were damaged beyond use but the trailer was good, we would be trailering after dark so this was not met with enthusiasm. Worst case, drop a deposit to show my interest and come back with parts to light it up another time...the owner did offer to drive behind all the way home to run interference. The hulls looked great, all the gear was present... a few things needing attention but just normal looking stuff. Then the hull integrity check. Soft spot on the port hull ahead of the pylon, about a handspan in size...I'd fix that, not a deal breaker. Then up inside the hulls I noticed some delamination...ahead of the front pylon to about 5 feet back and about a foot high...squishy crunchy foam delamination. Damn! So, no boat yet. Back to the drawing board. I am considering looking only for newer boats and just paying more at this point... but I am not giving up yet. I've got the whole winter to keep looking. Jeff. |

Keep at it, I am always surprised at the amount of 16's that pop up all times of the year and prices all over the map. Good luck! |

Yeah, keep at it. I bought my boat for $700 and had no idea what I was buying. Had never owned a boat (of any kind) and knew nothing about sailing. It was only after I had shown it to a sailor friend of mine was I notified that I struck gold. ![]() Of course, that was before the ton of money I invested in upgrades and beachwheels. And the spending continues. Am presently adding a spinnaker. ![]() |
