I am restoring an older Hobie 16 and it will need some paint - any rough guestimates as to how much is required? Will need some high build primer and topcoat.

Thanks

I used Interlux Brightsides Polyurathane, West Marine primer and Interlux Interdeck to paint my 1980 H16. I needed 1 quart of the primer (2 coats) , 2 quarts of red Brightsides (4 coats) on the sides, 1 quart of white Brightsides (3 coats) for the deck and 1 quart of Interdeck (2 coats) for the deck rough areas. All of my paint, filler, epoxy and supplies ended up costing about $600 at West Marine.
I ended up with some leftover paint but it is helpful for touch-ups. The touch-up paint is definitely needed!!
After painting was done and I took the boat out for a sail, I beached on an island when the tide went out. As I was dragging the boat back to the water, I noticed there was a bright red streak in the sand as my paint was sanded off the bottom. It is amazing how much time and effort goes into painting a boat and how quickly elements remove it!
I hope that helps!

That is exactly what I was looking for - thanks!!!! Sand is pretty nasty on them.. I was thinking about putting some carbon filled epoxy on the bottom of the amas - have no plans to race and it would certainly improve durability. I even considered just not painting that area for exactly the reason you listed. Life is hard on beach cats :)

The paint scheme you have is exactly what I was considering, although maybe a shade darker on the red.

thanks for the input!
