Hey guys i am a proud new owner of a h16 88 nationals boat. I'm 17 and am trying to get into cat sailing. Does anyone have a riging guide. Also i sorta no how the trapes work but not sure how the bungie works under the tramp. Any feedback would be nice. Thanks Guys |

yes but it's has white sailes with the pinkand purple in them. and one of the original black rudders cracked and i'm looking for another black one. not an epo you no that but some people don't understand

I forgot there were multiple sail colors in any given year. |

hbaugess, I'm also in NC. I have a black rudder if you want to trade for your white. I can't assure you that it is all black or if it has been painted though. I remember posting that on another thread, but I felt it would be easier to get you on this one. I give you a year though before you start looking for some EPOS. I rocked a white and black rudder on my boat for a while also. I don't know where you are in NC, but if you are within an hour or so of Fayetteville I'd be glad to meet you somewhere to show you how to rig your boat and maybe give it a look over. |

I'll try to get you a pic over the weekend. Are EPO's really that much better? Short answer: yes If you are just starting out you won't know a difference. But once you start wanting to beat the boats around you, you'll want a pair. They are waaaay lighter and waaaaay stiffer. They don't flex like the plastic ones. The reason I ended up with a black one is because I snapped one in half sailing in heavy air upwind. The EPO's feel more responsive. And since they don't flex, they tend to help you point a little higher, or at least that was my percieved experience. I sailed with regular rudders for a couple of years and switching to EPO's was like night and day. I'd get the boat first, sail it for a while with what you have, then start making the upgrades if you get into racing. |

Hey! Thats awesome, I got my hobie cat Last year (a 79)... when i was 16  anyway, I had a tonne of issues rigging it properly, this websites covers EVERYTHING http://www.cfycc.com/documents/dinghy/h ... basics.pdf and make sure you do all of it as it'll help so much Good Luck! Sebastian |

The sail WILL travel up slightly farther in the track, but there is no bead on the halyard to hook on to.The first bead is way too low, its on the second bead in the photo. I have actually wondered the same thing at times. Its possible I suppose the second bead on the halyard is too low for whatever reason. Maybe others can chime in. |

Sounds like you have an old (all wire) halyard on a Comptip mast. The halyard for a Comptip is 95% rope, with only the last foot or so being wire. |

When the comptip mast came out for protection from electric overhead wires, they did away with the reef points in the sail. The first slug on the halyard was the reef position and the second was full sail. The purpose of eliminating the reef was to be able to shorten the wire length of the halyard or it would defeat the purpose of the electrical insulation of the mast. It looks to me in the picture that the sail is all the way up. I think there is a difference in the top of the mast between the comptip and non-comptip. Is it possible that the length of halyard that comes over the pulley or pulleys is different? The next question is, is there a difference in the halyards in the distance from the end to the slug? My '85 had reef points in the sail which I used only once and didn't feel like it was worth the trouble. In late '85 the comptip mast came out. |
