| Post subject: | Aussie vs Regular Jib Halyard |
I have recently seen something that has generated an interest in me, to possibly purchase the Aussie Halyard set up for my 16. But I'd like to hear some opinions if anyone has them..... Is there a difference in performance? And if so, is it enough to justify the cost to switch? It seems to me that the Aussie rig helps eliminate, or at least to reduce, fore to aft motion in the mast as the boat pitches in rough water. Which I am guessing would help keep the shape of the main better, and consequently, result in less spillage of air from the main...Am I on the right track with this thing? |

Raisin... All of us serious sailors here on the Gulf Coast have gone to the Aussie. It allows me to put some serious forward tension on the mast without much work. I can actually bend the mast forward if I want. REALLY tightens up the whole rig... Mike |

After receiving a few opinions from the message board, I built my own pseudo aussie rig for just a few bucks: Harken 2655 ($21.00 at marine.com) 
and Harken 2637 ($18 also at marine.com) 
Plus the Aussie forestay(pigtail attached at upper swivel) from saltydogmarine.com ($30) Thus far, it has worked great! Much better than the 1985 setup. Keep us posted... Jeffrey |
