Post subject: | Bottom job |
I am going to be doing a bottom job on my boat soon and want to figure out the best way to do it. I read the hotline article from Sep-Oct 2008 and want to take that approach. My question is...is it possible to use bondo to smooth out the glass and use marine paint over it rather than spraying gelcoat? Spraying the gelcoat just seems like a lot of work. I am not a competitive racer and I could really care less if it adds a little bit of weight to the boat. I am just wondering if doing this will lead to problems further down the road. |

Marine paint will wear off the first time it touches sand. You're better off not doing anything (paint / gelcoat) if you don't care how it looks. |

I used the light short strand fiberglass filler from evercoat, and it worked great. Aslo you can't see the repair on the bottom of your boat. I made a video about it. Here is the link |
