H16 Mast float

I recently bought a 1972 Hobie 16 :D and I want to buy a mast float for it. Will it fit such an old model H16 :?: HELP!

Yes, it will fit the older mast or current. Part 30115 Mast Float.

If you will go over your mast and make sure that it is water tight, you will not need the mast float. Take the fittings off the top and bottom, making sure that the foam plug is in place, fill all the rivet holes with silicone sealant, then you should be ok. I once spent an hour and 40 minutes on my side and never had any problem with going turtle. I have since been over many times and never felt the lack of a mast float. Good luck.

All depends on which way you capsize and how fast you react in getting weight off the upper hull and onto the righting line.... and the prevailing conditions. Once the mast is upwind, no problem, but if the mast is dead down wind or there is current, the boat can quickly go turtle. A sealed mast is not going to stop that.

I was in a situation once where I had to turtle the boat. I was in a 65 MPH blow, and the only way to save the boat was to turtle it. Hope your never in a situation like that though! :D

65 MPH wind OMG I can't even imagine what that would be like!!!! Got caught out in about 35 MPH wind once, centered the boom and jib and ran straight downwind untill we got to shore.

What happens when you turtle....like how do you get it back up. After a disaster with my boat last time, my boat almost turtled. We had it on her side, with the boat facing the right direction. When we righted her, she came all the way over and fell on its other side. Now the sail was down wind and she would have turtled but the mast was too busy getting pounded into the mud. Once I finally had it in the right direction, the mast had filled with water and mud and we couldnt get it back over until a waverunner helped us out. We also lost the rudders/steering assembly with that incident.
