If you're new and really have no idea what you're doing I would definately seek out someone else with experience on the H16 and get them to show you what's up. Other than that, good luck, welcome to the club, and HAVE FUN!!

So I'm very new to this and I just bought my first hobie. A 1979 hobie 16. I have no idea what i'm doing but i'm very excited. However I need some suggestions on where to take it. I'm in Sacramento, CA. Anywhere within 2 hours of me would be great. Any suggestions? Jon |

I would love to have someone there to help, but i don't know anyone who sails let alone someone who has hobie experience. Like I said, I do have some experience sailing, so I don't expect it to be too difficult. Mostly just awkward. Besides I've survived owning a Ducati superbike, a powerboat, and a few firearms. How hard could a hobie be? 
Anyway still looking for a good lake to go to, Anyone? |

Well at least make sure you've brought along a crew to help you right it and also have a righting line available! Scan through here and read some posts about tacking the boat. Not quite as easy as on a monohull.

no doubt. I got 8 people going with me, I also got two books and a video. So I feel pretty confident. Mainly I'm just excited to be back out on the water again sailing. Jetski's and race boats are fun, but there's still something "different" about sailing. wish me luck. Jon |

There are scads of resevoirs near Sac-a-tomatoes on which you can sail a Hobie. Try Folsom Lake, Lake Comanche & New Hogan near Valley Springs, Woodward near Oakdale, Oroville Lake, New Melones Lake near Angels Camp, and Lake Don Pedro on Hwy 120 on the way to Yosemite. All are within two hours of Sacramento. |

I Sailed earlier this season, with Hobie Fleet 2 and Fleet 240. Both groups were great. Check out there web sites. Surf City Catamarans In Santa Cruz is also a Option. There is Also Mile High comming up at Huntinton with Fleet 62 in Fresno. Todd |

Speaking of Division 3 regatta's My crew would LOVE to get their hands on a Shark Feed Regatta t-shirt (If there will be any).. However we will be racing in the San Diego Classic on the same weekend.. If anyone could pick me up an extra T-Shirt (Large would be fine), I would either send them a San Diego Yacht Club Polo Shirt, or a San Diego Classic T-Shirt in trade.....
