Just purchased a used H-16 which I will use to upgrade my older h-16. This one has a furling jib. My question is; does the furing jib now take the place of the forstay? This seems like an aweful lot of tension to put on the roller drum and upper swivel, but I can't seem to find a forstay with the rigging. I have the upper forstay with the halyard block, but there is no actual forstasy. Does anyone have the instructions for the furling kit for a H-14 turbo or H-16? Any help would be appreciated. |

The forestay is inside the jib luff to allow the furling to actually work. Otherwise the forestay would wrap around the jib as the jib is furled. The furler itself (Hobie system with black drum) was designed for the Hobie 18 and is plenty strong for the rig loads of a Hobie 16. This one appears to be a Harken furling drum and upper swivel. Looks much smaller than the Hobie parts I've seen. Hope it can hold the mast up. |

We also offered a kit for 16s using a Harken furler system. Should be no problem with the furler strength. The difference is in the attachments for bridles and rake adjustment. That is much better with the Hobie designed system. |

Thanks for the info. I'll look to upgrade to the Hobie hardware in the near future. |
