I have been very fortunate to have been offered winter storage of my 16 in a neighbors garage every winter for the past several years. The winters here are pretty harsh and I know this has been additive to the life of my boats. The garage is wide enough to have allowed me to keep the frame attached to the hulls and not having to pull the boat apart has made the annual winterization process real simple. Well, winter hasn't loosened it's grip yet and due to a renovation, the neighbor is in need of the garage space for furniture storage. One other relevant piece of info here is that the boat in there now is brand new. It hasn't seen one drop of water or a spec of sand. Here's my question....I have 2 options for the relocation. One is to keep the boat together and take it to a storage facility with it's associated monthly cost, or... take the hulls apart and move it into another neighbors garage (where it won't fit without taking it apart) at no cost. I never like taking hulls apart, but being that this is a new boat, I don't think getting it apart or putting it back together will be a big deal. I've always thought (maybe mistakingly) that taking a boat apart and putting it back together tends to make the boat looser. Knowing that I'm obsessed with keeping it inside when not being sailed, am I, in any way, compromising the integrity/tightness of the new boat by taking her apart? |

I don't think you should have much of a problem with making it looser, but It also depends on how tight you tied your tramp. The tighter the tramp the harder it will be to take the hulls off. If you want to undo the tramp, and put it back together I don't think you will have much of a problem. |
