Hey all Was wondering if there truely is a significant difference between sailing a 14 and a 16? Im 17 years old and have been sailing monohuls for 8 years and a hobie for 2. I am currently the owner of a 14 and am wondering whether it is worth investing in lots of after market parts for my 14 or to upgrade to a 16 for added size and so I can grow as a hobie sailer. My hobie has nothing but stock parts and I would be adding trapeze wires, a harness, new hiking stick, eventually racing rudders. I should mention that the hulls are in great shape for a 1975. No soft spots, sail is from the early 90's, new paint job. I sail primarily on a lake that is about 1 and 1/2 miles long, but I take day trips to larger lakes in the NH area, one day I hope to race. What are everyones thoughts on my situation? |

Try to get out on a 16 and see for yourself if you want a bigger boat. |

Try out someone's H16. Parts are still being made for it as its still a production boat. sell your 14 to a die hard 14 racer. You can proably sell your 14 for more than the cost of a 16. 16's are more fun and you can take more people with you. The 16 is the backbone of Hobie Class Racing. |

I chose a 16 because a 14 is seems to be radically slower with more than one adult on board. |
