Post subject:  Complete Hull Refinishing Help!

I am new to this forum and relatively new to sailing, my dad is certified up to a 48footer and we owned and sailed regularly a Macgregor 26, i convinced my dad to help me buy a Hobie 16 it was sail ready but the hulls are a little worse for wear, there are many rough gelcoat patches and i want to end all problems and have them redone, i am in San Antonio, Texas, will be attending aTm galveston (WHOOP!) anyone know where i can find a place that will start from scratch and refinish. I have looked all over the internet already. Thanks!

You can probably do most of the work yourself. it may take a weekend but really composite work is a picnic (except the smell!) put up some pictures and let's asses the damage! after we see whats wrong we can begin to point you in the right direction. Most boat shops that paint are familiar with the hand layup of fiberglass, the guys wh really know composites however are usually to busy filament winding chemical tanks and windmill blades to bother with a boat.
Just do it yourself, there's a long summer ahead and I don't imagine any hobie repair would take more than a few weeks.
