I'd lay 2-3 layers of glass over the crack (after cleaning the area with acetone) and call it good. You probably want to go an inch or so on all sides for safety.

There is a 16" horizontal crack in my hull just below the top section (deck?). The crack is in between the pylons and It looks like it is where the top and outer side of hull meet just under the over handing top. any advice for repair? Thanks -Gabe |

Crack? Is this up under the lip at the top of the radius? or level with the lip edge? There can be crazing (gelcoat cracks) that might not be structural. These are common under the lip. Photos? |

If it is from the shroud anker bar backwards it probably does not matter much. 16 " is kind of long. In case it is not a deep crack, you could use a small grinding device (like a Dremmel tool) to grind the crack wide enough to let some epoxy (or gel coat) seep into it. Patrick |

Thanks for your input. MMiller-it is up under the lip at the top of the radius. It is definetly structural. I performed the leak test with soapy water and blew some air into the hull, and it bubbled out the crack. Also, when I press against the side of the hull, it begins to separate from the deck. I hope that is more clear. If I can get ahold of a digital camera, I will post some pictures. -Gabe |

Best bond for the glasswork requires removing the gelcoat down to the glass. I think a few layers are also a good idea. Maybe the rail got compressed. |
