Maybe the hull was replaced, the hull looks very good compared to the rest of the parts. |

I got the answer. There are 3 more digits that completed the VIN and proved it was an 82. This was an early 80's boat that was advertised as a 1995 the 95 in the VIN is actually in the spot for the count and the coutn restarts each year. The hull looks shiny as it was repainted to look closer to an 1995. I am now working with the seller that misrepresented the boat. Thanks! |

Definitely not a 95 boat, just look at the jib sheet hardware, I'd say late 80's or so. Like was mentioned probable the hull has been changed at some point. |

whats the other hull BIN? for registration purposes its a 1995. Ive put all brand new Hobie factory parts on my boat (1981) and that doesnt make it a 2009 hobie 16. Only thing im missing is the intagrated track ![]() its a hodge-podge boat....maybe it was bought new in 1995 and a tree fell and snapped the cross bars? then the cross bars were replaced with older ones? point is, the hulls are one year, and who knows what year the other hardware is ![]() |

Not many parts on this boat are from '95, maybe that rudder gudgeon, but that's it. There has been extensive gelcoat(?) repair done, see how the underside of the lip is white? That tells me that the boat was completely sprayed with something. Usually the lip is bare resin and will look brownish. ![]() See how on the deck there is a piece of nonskid tape all the way up to the bow tang, yet the stock deck pattern is non existant? That's another sign that the boat was recoated. ![]() We were debating today when the last year of clear anodizing was, and came up with mid 80s. So your boat is older than a mid 80s. Is there any anodizing on the pilons? Do the hull numbers match? How about a hull weight etched behind that gudgeon? 60 to 75 +or-? |

One more thing. I don't think that HIN is legit. If it were a '95 it would have more numbers in it. Like this: Quote: Serial number location on Hobie Cat sailboats
Since 1973 the serial numbers on Hobie Catamaran sailboats has been located on the transom or rear of each hull. The number is hand-engraved using a vibration tool. The number is on both hulls of a catamaran. You can rub a small amount of graphite or soil into the serial number engraving to make it easier to read. Serial numbers use the following format: (example CCMB2345H989) Some older boats have had serial numbers engraved in a vertical direction parallel to the rudder pin. HOBIE CAT'S I.D MODEL SERIAL # MONTH BUILT YEAR BUILT MODEL YEAR CCM or HCC A 1234 A 3 03 |

The step casting is what showed me it was older. The casting changed in 1982. ![]() I also learned that the vin system on early boats did have the "M" before the model year as well, so its old. He knows it now. |

Those rudder castings are also non-adjustable. So it's 83 or older for sure. But you've already got your answer, so that info isn't worth quite as much now. |

Thanks everyone! I now have an early 80s boat at an early 80s price! This is much better than an early eighties boat at a 95 price ![]() Your help was greatly appreciated! |
