I recently found a great replacement for the mast chip everyone spends their hard earned money on. I tried the homemade butter tubes and even the hard material on poly binders. A penny even works when you are in a pinch. (the end result looks neat too). If you want a permeant fix cover the ball(mast end) with epoxy. I used some Raka brand I had laying around. I then cleaned and covered the socket end with the epoxy and left about 3/16 of an inch in the socket to dry. After three trips the hard epoxy is still in great shape, the mast and step are in the proper position. The bonus is that you will not have to worry about losing those damn chips again. I hope somone finds this useful. |

Losing chips is one reason why we modified the mast step last year and added the "Chip Keeper" feature. You can do this to your older steps too. It is a series of small holes drilled in the cup. The chips get squeezed into the small holes and are "locked" into the cup. Works great. Ha! Well now I have a face to go with the name! 
You kind of look like my old high school principal probably did when he was younger. 
No pics of the holes in the mast step though? HOW shallow are the holes? What diameter are they? And where are they drilled? Just several 1/8" holes like 1 or 2mm deep around the bottom of the cup or what?

Did you not see my comment about making a video like that with an H16 (and no mast but maybe two people with paddles)? That'd be cool too. And what, just real shallow, huh? Cool. IIIIIiii may have to implement that, although I suspect it may have less effect on the 16-oz soda bottle caps I like to use.

Today I ride whats called waveski, its a cross between a surfboard and a kayak. http://www.islandwaveski.com/ custom made, not far from where I live... If there's wind, I'm sailing, If the surf is up, I'm catching waves on my waveski or my hobie peterpan slug. |
