gel coat is impregnated with color....odds are, if the color has lasted this long, its just gel coated.....wetsand, buff with rubbing compound, wax....it will look brand new. The objective is to get the top layer of oxidized coating off and let the new stuff shine |

How aggressive do you need to get with the wet sand and rubbing compound? I have an '81 and it looks pretty good with no major color loss or damage but I removed the accent stripe and underneath is a nice consistent stripe of what has to be near original coloring that stands out against the rest of the hull no matter what I do. So far I've just buffed it with a fairly light 3M compound. |

I have re-painted many hobie cats and so far they have held up for several years and still look great. Here is what i did 1.lightly sand the hulls 2.rub them down with rubbing alcohol or laquer thinner 3.use some all purpose spray paint from menards home depot etc. you need about 7-10 cans to cover the hulls and have them look good. 4.you for sure need 2 coats of paint but may need more. |
