I hope you're not gonna ask a lot of questions about how to get off the stuff. If that's the case, you're in big trouble cause all of us on this site are addicted as well. We've fallen and we can't get up !!! Welcome aboard Roger. :D

haha thanks!

We are located in Reno, Nevada and do not have much, if any local retailers for our boat! Do you guys have any suggestions for online retailers for affordable, quality parts? We need a new trampoline and the rutters need to be rebuilt.

Also, we have to figure out how to properly rope the mail sale ratchet/pulley system. I came across a thread so I will be studying that for now!

Welcome aboard. Sailing Hobies is a blast even if the wind dies as it has with me. Just have a paddle handy. I find a Hobie paddles about as easy as a canoe. BTW, looks like your sail could go a little higher. Mine was like that and for some reason the top slug was about 6" further away from the shackle pin. A new main halyard from Mariner Sails in Dallas solved that problem. (A little plug for you, Aris) You can search the forums here and find a wealth of info. I would also encourage you to read the Hobie FAQs pages. Great information all around. Have fun!

Hey guys,

You came to the right place. Comb this forum for excellent information, how-to's and gotchas. I've spent hours here. Responders are well informed and generous with their knowledge so don't be affraid to ask even the simplest question.

One online retailer you can source from is Murray's at: http://www.murrays.com/archive/archive.html. They are well informed, well stocked, and their service is fantastic.

Also check out Surf City Catamarans on the web and on Youtube for awesome clips of repairs, etc. These guys know how to get it done.

Have FUN!

And you can do just like me by letting them know the parts needed so you receive a nice quote by mail from Jeremy and you just have to call for the order & payment. Quick and efficient even when beeing far away from Santa Cruz, CA !

thanks for all the tips! keep them coming!

i just ordered new rudder cams and a trampoline ($170 new on ebay!). I'm hoping to rebuild the boat like some of the threads i've seen and just make it perfect after this season is over!

i will definitely be contacting these guys for parts in the future now that i know where to go.

Beware buying after-market and used parts for quality and compatibility. Definitely don't buy used standing rigging, and for safety it's strongly advisable to replace standing rigging if you don't know how old the stuff is on your boat. This list includes:
shrouds
anchor pins
bridal tangs

Make friends with a Hobie dealer as they have advice and tips you won't get from eBay.

Order a Hobie parts catalog so you can easily learn the correct names for the parts as well as know how much they cost. OEM Hobie parts are remarkably price competitive and you know they will work (for the most part, after all, your boat is 30 years old).

we just sailed lake tahoe yesterday! water was freezing. we actually tacked and jibed successfully several times and only got stuck in the dead zone a couple times but was able to get out of it much more quickly this time, probably because we were using the jib this time.

the new trampoline ($160 new) we ordered off ebay worked out nicely. its definitely not the same material as OEM but i think its actually better. it drains faster and is easier on the knees. now we just have to get the rudders rebuilt. waiting for parts to come in still.

Glad you had a great time. BTW, I noticed in the pic of your boat that your main was not hoisted all the way to the top. The halyard is supposed to lock into a stop that supports the weight in the sail. Just FYI.

Wow!!! I must be reading too many of Matt Bounds post. Don't think I would have ever noticed that before.

I got my Hobie 16 in mid July of 2009 as I was in the process of loosing everything I owned. I have a Skipper 20 that I retro fitted into a small sailing cutter and it was on the chopping block, soooo.. anyway. Thinking I was going to loose my boat a couple friends of mine said You need to try out our Hobie, I did and I was HOOKED!!!! They had to pry me off the boat, that night we were sitting at the Lakeshore knocking back a few cold beers and one said "I have a 16 for sale, You do some repairs on our boats and I will let you have it for $150.00." So I repaired their tramps, made them tramp storage bags, did a little hull repair and I got my first 79 Hobie. It needed cleaning and few things but was sail-able. I got on it and haven't been off it yet except to sail other boats. They are a Rush to Sail.

Oh I got to keep my other boat as well.
