I don't know about other states but I don't know anyone that carries their registration on board. If the Coast Guard or Lifeguards want to know the status of the boat, they can just run the CF numbers. What I do carry is my insurance info in the event I need to be towed or if there's an accident. I sail in the ocean so that's really important to me. But don't take my word for it. Check with the officials in your area. ![]() |

In Michigan, you are not required to have the paper registration on the boat with you. The registration decal is proof that the boat is registered. |

Depends on the state. I've heard that Florida just instituted registration for sailboats, but there's considerable dispute as to whether it applies to Hobie 16s. |
