How is the review on the new velcro jib batten pockets(Used at the Worlds).Is HCA thinking of going to these? |

They've been class legal since May of 2004 (voted in at the Mexico Worlds). Apparently the South Africans had already been using them. I haven't heard anything good or bad about them, other than Rich McVeigh lost a batten in the crazy wind when the Velcro let go. |

Mike and Matt The velcro jib batten looks like a good idea but in practice it is very hard to work with. It's nearly impossible to get your batten loosened at the end of the day and you need a little push rod to put the batten in. This little push rod fits in a sleeve and after just a week of use you could see this was going to be a high maintenace item for your sail maker. On top of that you could lose a batten like I did if the velcro lets go. I like the US system the best, simple and it works. Rich |
