Hi all, I need some experienced eyes on this. Here's a link to pictures. You can reply to me here or on my blog. My access to the web is unpredictable, I'll be checking replies tomorrow. Thanks in advance. http://www.ondesire.com/2010/07/07/what ... s-happens/ Dan Kelly |

Can't respond to your blog without registering, so here is the place. This indicates a failed pylon shoe. You need to access the area inside the hull (inspection port). Force the pylon back upwards somehow, then glass / bond the shoe back to the hull or the pylon to the shoe. |

Thanks Matt! Bad to continue sailing with a detached pylon/shoe I'd guess? Could tear the hull apart if not repaired? Is there any specific reason why this happens? Aside from 30 years of hard sailing? ![]() |

Thanks Matt. I'm the second owner and it was pretty banged up when I bought it. Is this pylon issue normal for a 30 year old boat that has been sailed hard, or is it more likely caused by some unique trauma like another boat colliding with it on a mooring or maybe an impact while it was on a trailer? Do not sail as is. You can fail the whole bow / hull. Yes, this may have been caused by rough beach landings, trailering or simply fatigue over time. |

Best thing to do is walk away from that boat. there are so many other hobie 16s out there. dont buy one with bad hulls. everything else can be fixed, but JUST SAY NO and find another one |
