Is this feasible or have i had too much to smoke? Add another fitting to the mast like where the forestay attaches but attatch it at the top of the mast...............run another fore stay....... cut down a H-16 main to fit on the front and use it as a reacher... Ive found a good deal on a main that need some work and could it be reworked to be a reacher? NEXT IDEA... is there any spinnakers for the H-16? |

Check the Hobie catalog for a spinnaker system for the 16, it's in there. |

The spinnaker kit is $500 and the spin itself is another $500. I see it as a deal, because it is part of my stepping stone before I get a Tiger, which will make a twenty year old 16 seem like food stamps. My only problem is I sail on a narrow lake right now, the way the wind blows I'm normally tacking every 400 yards so a spinnaker for me is superflous on this lake. I've got Lake Erie less than 3 hours away so there's a place I could use it. I would love to hear feed back on guys that have put a spin on a 16. My god when the wind is anything over 15 a run is the only time I get to relax, but who wants to relax. |

I found a site on the internet Atlantic Sail Traders and they got lots of spinnakers but you need to know the make model and year... IE thw Luff the Leach and the Foot. So does any one have those specifications. Im sure MATT would know??? I still think cutting a main to fit the forstay would be an easy less expensive approach as i get alot of those cork bobbin days on a small lake in IL and need to extract and and all energy from said wind ! |

I run a Hooter on my 14 and I don't worry about tacking. The clew of the headsail barely comes beyond the front beam, so it tacks easily. Rick has a really long foot on his Hooter and uses blocks on the rear beam to control it. When going upwind, he has to furl it before he tacks and then unfurls it to get going again. Mine just tacks like a big jib.

Thanks for the reply... im wondering where is the correct location for the tang on the mast? Im thinkin about runnin a spin but off a bow spirt instead of a pole as ill be single handin it. Wot u think? |
