Post subject: | Main sheet block question |
I recently bought an 88 H16 that had everything but the owner could not find the main sheet rigging. I plan to purchase new Harken block and pully but would really appreciate suggestions for which block and pulley to buy. I am leaning towards the Harken 2618 carbo block and Har 2604 triple pulley for the mainsheet system. Any thoughts or concerns would be appreciated. Thank you. |

Stock set is 2640 (40mm) carbo upper and 194 lower (40mm). (57mm) is too big. We use 3/8" line for the mainsheet when doing 6:1 |

mmiller, thank you for the reply, I have seen these, however I am curious about the set up I have seen on the one design layout at Mauri Pro Sailing. They recommend the 2629, and the 2604 on thier site. Now I realize this is a retail site, but I am curious about all the differences. They are all triples but with differences. Is the stock set up "good enough" and the others better, or am I spending money that I don't really need to? Thanks again, |

We build the H16 to be the best it can be, so I think it's more than "good enough" it's the best block set for it. Mauri Pro Sailing is not a Hobie dealer, but a company trying to sell parts for many boats. I see they list the H16, but they have very little to offer for it. Diameter of the sheaves is the biggest difference. You want smaller, so it doesn't stack too high. Smaller allows more mast rake, which is key to H16 performance. We don't like the carbo lower as the jaw angle adjustment is a pain. |

Sorry I meant no disrespect with my "good enough" reference. Just in the circles I grew up in, stock was not always the best right to begin with. I will take your recommendation and buy what you suggest. Thank you for the knowledgeable advice. |
