back in the late 1970's Hobie made some Lime Green hulled 16's. are there any to be found? I would love to have one for my daughter. I know they made them for 1979 hobie nationals... what other years were they made? Glenn

The original lime was a horrible color - it faded to a sickly yellowish green and was impossible to color match when making a repair.

It's nickname was "slime lime" for a reason.

They're still around, but most don't look very good these days.

Mine have mostly gone to dark green or gray, except under the stickers. (They're only 40 years old...)
When I first saw the boat, I almost thought they were algae-stained white, but they polished up to a tolerable color.
Most of the other green hulls that I've seen, upon closer inspection, were painted. I believe this one was made in 1970 - sn# 2381

I bought a lime lime green hobie 16 in about 1974 plus or minus and kept it till 1992 It never faded I raced it many times sold it to a friend and he sailed it until the boats untimely death at the hands of a very high tension electric wire The boat and rigging were totaled. Edisto Beach SC lost all power on a Saturday night. No one got hurt thankfully and no a comp tip would have made no difference. Still it was a unusual color and looked great in the water

My all original lime green 1972. Hulls look a little rough but are solid as a rock! :D Still performs like a champ!

Hi there,

I actually have a '74 pair squirreled away in the hopes that I might someday take on my - ahem - third H-16 restoration project (not sure wife will approve!). I really love the color, myself. Check out the pics. They're stored in RI - we might be able to work something out if you're interested.

Best,
Rich
