Post subject:  Scavenging parts of a Hobie 18

I have a '76 Hobie 16. There is a Hobie 18 that has been sitting in the sea oats near where I keep my boat. I know who owns it and want to know what parts would be interchangeble bwtween the 16 and 18. It has been sitting out in the weather uncovered for at least a 3 years unmoved. I have been looking for a cheap pair of epo rudders and this boat has them. I think the parts number is different in the Hobie catalog for the 18/16 rudders. Would the 18 rudders hinder the performance more or less than the original glass rudders. Anyone ever modified the 18 epo rudders to fit the 16?

The rudder blades are the same, but the mounting holes a different. You will have to fill the holes the 18 blades and drill new holes for the h16 castings.

Other than a few bits and pieces, the 16 and 18 do not share many parts.

Probably the only significant ones are the rudders.
