Hey guys, Just trying to figure out the various weights of the hobie 16 hulls, based on year of manufacture. ( I cant seem to find it in this forum) I know the redline boats by Coleman were lighter, and then the new boats are even lighter still. We are having a debate at the sailing club about old hobie 16's like my 1978, racing against mid aged hobies of early 90's , versus the new boats. The years they changed, and the corresponding weights please. Really appreciate it. Thanks. Spyder |

Minimum weight (class legal) was 340# until 1984 when it was changed to 320#. It's been that ever since. However, many of the older boats were much heavier. Older boats gain weight, too. The only way to really tell is to weigh the boat. In a general sense, a 1978 boat will certainly not be competitive against a newer boat and probably not against a mid-90s boat. |
