Hi,

Just wanted to introduce myself. I just acquired a late 70s Hobie 16. I started sailing this year on a friend's Getaway and liked it so much that I bought his old Hobie 16. I've taken some sailing lessons too, but still a lot to learn.

Here's a picture of my new toy:

Actually, those 2 kids are my friend's kid (the big guy under the boom), only reason they came with me is because their speedboat was in the shop. My son is in the picture, but you hardly see him, he's the shadow on the opposite side of the mast.

My son is 7, he can't wait to be 9 to enroll in White Sail sailing lessons.

Marc....I learned to sail on slower boats than the H16. I too thought I was buying an "older" Hobie when I jumped head first into this whole thing. I'm a full adventure athlete who is just now learning the real greatness of my 1980 H16. Hold on tight man you are in for a hell of a ride

Hey Marc!! Another Newbie here and congratulations and best to you in your new adventure. If you want to experience just about every disaster known to man on the water, a hobie is the rig to do it on! LOL I try to explain to my adrenaline junky friends that they would love it and yet they won't go out with me on the cat. I think it's because they know I'm a disaster waiting to happen. Every time I go out something nuts happens. For most people the stuff nightmares are made of. For others, pure entertainment. Steve

Thanks every one for the welcome.

Unfortunately, I rarely get the weather you guys get in coastal regions. I sail inland on a lake 10 miles long, but less than a mile wide. Once in a while, we are lucky and the wind is perpendicular to the lake and we can just fly up and down. We are 3 cats on the river that usually meet up, the other 2 are Getaways and both told me I had the fastest rig, but also less forgiving. I bought mine from one of the two Getaway owners.

I guess I could go in the Atlantic, it's closer than where I keep the boat. They are calling for 25 knot wind this week with 6 to 8 feet waves, but the water temp is in the high 50s.
