Greetings All, When using a righting line and standing on the lower pontoon where does one want to end up as the boat comes back over? Yesterday was the first time I had to use the line. When the boat came over I essentially caught the pontoon and let it push me under; no harm done but not a good feeling. The second time over I tried to push off the lower pontoon but ended up with the same result. There seems to be more than enough clearance for me under the tramp when the boat comes over. Is that the safest place? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Mike |

You do indeed want to end up under the tramp. When you can feel the boat is going to come fully upright, grab on to the dolphin-striker supports. This serves three purposes: 1) It won't hit you on the head. That weould be very bad! 2) It keeps you attached to the boat so it doesn't wander off without you! 3) In higher winds, the boat will often go over backwards! Holding on to the striker will keep the boat upright. When you want to get back aboard, come up onto the hulls in front of the tramp. Hope this helps! |

TJP is exactly right. It is a little unnerving the first few times you do it, but it is the safest way to right the boat. This is one of those times when being tall is not advantageous. It does, however make reaching the upper hull a bit easier. |

Thanks. After thinking about it under the tramp seemed to be a good idea but figured it was better to ask before heading out again next weekend. |

If you are really quick, you can walk youself onto the top of the hull as the boat comes up. A little like a "dry" capsize on a laser. As the boat comes up, pull yourself up the line, grab the dolphin striker, and keep pulling, then as the boat comes up, keep moving until you are on the deck just forward of the cross bar. Usually the crew can do this, but the real trick is having both the skipper and crew make it onto the boat. |
