So I went for a few more outings with my "new-to-me" H16. I noticed that I was not able to hook the stop sleeve, upon further investigation, I see that the stop sleeve blocks at the masthead and will not feed onto the sheave. I have the masthead with double-sheave. I did not buy the halyard, so I'm not sure of its diameter, but I would estimate 5/16", possibly 3/8". Could that be the issue? I see the parts list shows the main halyard at 3/16". This weekend I plan to drop the mast to have a closer look, but if I know it's too large, I'll order one today in hopes to have it by the weekend. I know it's not good to sail with the main halyard not hooked halyard hook. Thanks, Marc... |

If you have the double sheave masthead, you need the comptip halyard. It sounds like you might have the older style halyard from your description. The correct one should have about 50' of line with about 18" of wire swaged into it. The incorrect one will have about 30' of line with about 30' of wire. Pics would answer the question if you have any. Hope that helps. Hope I understood the problem. |

I only have a short section of wire at the end of the halyard, it's not half and half, but it still could be the wrong one. I leave my boat on the beach at the campground, so I won't be back until the weekend so I cannot take pictures now. The friend I bought it from is wondering if maybe he put in a halyard for the Getaway by mistake since there is not much line left to go around the cleat compared to his Getaway, and the mast on the Getaway is shorter than on the H16. But I don't know what's the required diameter for the main halyard on the Getaway. |

So there should be plenty to go round the cleat, right? Not sure what you are saying here. |

Sorry, I said this wrong, yes there is several feet when the sail is hoisted, it's when the sail is removed and I tie the halyard to the mast by putting the shackle through the cleat and then wrap around the other end of the halyard on the cleat. |

Well, I dropped the mast this weekend. I found out why I could not hoist the main all the way up. The bob was attached with 2 bolts going across the masthead just above the sheave preventing the brass stopper to go through. The bob was also held by screws that were not interfering, so I kept the bolts off. Found out that the previous owner had the wrong halyard on it, there was roughly 12" of wire at the end, so even after getting the brass stopper through, there was an inch missing to hook, that was with the shackle hitting the masthead. I ordered a new one today, should be here before the weekend. |
