I wish someone famous would walk by my boat. Apparently it more than triples the value.
There's a hobie 16 for sale on ebay. The "buy it now" price is almost 10K! This is a 1986 boat.
It's sole claim to fame is the fact that it's in the background of an old Bill Murry movie.

Ha! He's on crack if he thinks he's getting more for it than a new one costs.

Yeah, good luck with that sale - I wouldn't keep my fingers crossed.

And is it just me or if you look closely, do you notice that the main sail in the movie screenshot doesn't quite match the sails on the boat for sale?

The true Crack user will see this boat for the collectable it truly is. :? The fact that it's not even original with the new mesh tramp, and recondintioned hulls should not discourage the savy Crack user from bidding high. (pun intended) :D

The sails are the same (Carumba pattern), but the hull graphic is from 2004. The flying "H"'s on the inside bows is from the late 90's.

Boat looks nice, but not that nice. This guy is completely nuts.

The ad states that new hobie decals were added after the hulls had been restored.
I purchased my Hobie 16 brand new in 92, and it has the flying H's on the inside of the hulls. I dont think the seller is nuts... but whoever buys it at that price sure is.

another SIGN of THE TIMES!

...what`s next - seagull poop on the tramp that looks like an Elvis profile?

Yup, pretty damn nuts. But after seeing how that guy sold the cinnamon bun (or sandwich?) that somehow looked like the virgin Mary, for $3000.00...nothing surprises me anymore.

Hmm.... check out the Hull # - That thing is not a 1986 as the seller claims!

Here is an idea... I have a mildew stain in my jib that looks like Hobie Alter. If I get lucky I get sufficient funds for it to get a new set of sails!

Just kidding,
Patrick

I was looking at cruzing boats in San Diego the other day, and I say another famous boat, I asked the broaker the boat I was looking at is the boat from waterworld (trimaran) it was. I guess some guy bought it dirt cheap and restored it to actually look like a boat again. Hmmm big boat, dirt cheap... small boat more than new...
