Since my crack dealer is on vacation in the carolinas (surfcity) i'm bringing my questions to the forum. 1st off, pictures to follow.

1st problem. the forestay is WAY to long. see pictures. possible that the people messed up in making it and didnt check the length? If i hook this up and let the jib down, the mast will probbaly go to a 45degree angle to the hulls. i have the A. halyard, and i feel they sent the forestay for boats without the a. halyard....i dont know...any thoughts?

2nd problem. is the tramp suposed to come out of the front corners like that? its ONLY coming out around the entrance areas into the sidebars(see pictures)

3rd issue. i suppose since i have a lot of mast rake, and an old jib, i wont be able to go block-to-block on the jib because the actual sail cuts are diferent, huh? Anyone have a newer style silver jib for sale? :o

4th issue. Does the rear of the tramp need to be tighter? its not perfectly straight in the back (see pictures again)

5th issue. Is my tramp too tight? is that even possible? Theres very little slop in the frame at all. with the mast up and sail raised, you lift up one hull and the other instantly starts moving...F*ing sweet! I'm SOOOO excited!

this is the first time in a year that the mast has been up, its been a long hard year, with lots of money spent, but i have pretty much a new boat for 1/5th the price!

as you can tell, i *almost* have the perfect mast rake, i just need to let the jib up two or three more holes on the adjuster, and pull the shrouds down a few. I feel this is going to be an AWESOME windy season in Georgia!

Also, i added a picture of the control lines for refrence. color coding does WONDERS! i LOVE the different colors on the tramp, it makes finding stuff easy.

Plus, you've got to admit, the boat looks SEXY AS HELL on the rebuilt trailer. I am like a kid in a candy store right now... i feel like its christmas.

Hopefully I answered some of your questions in that private message. Due to the fact that Hobie was out of Aussie Hal rigs, I sourced that from another vendor, so I'll ask them what's up. Maybe someone else can weigh in if they have experience. The f stays are long, but man, that's really long!

Can't wait to see what they say.

That's a common issue with tramps. Tramp clamps usually solve the issue. Some people have added a grommet near the side rail and tie a 2 mm dyneema line around the rail. Any other creative solutions out there?


Back to the wedding ceremony. IPhones rule! I may be breaking some cardinal rule by posting during the ceremony. Will watch for lightening;)

all it needs is some surf city stickers to go down the side hulls, and some "complimentary" hobie EPO carbon fiber rudders.... *cough* *cough*

sure its not as nice as a new one because of the delam repairs on the insides of the hulls in the center (which are still rock hard after standing on the and sitting for 7 months) and the heavy paint and all that, but lets face it- I'm land locked in Georgia, and lake sailing is the closest i'm gonna get. I only sail on the weekends because of class, and this sucker is prefect. Ocaisonal trips to the Atlantic are the only hard-core sailing this thing is going to see.

Ive got right at $2.5k invested in this (including the boat) so i'm within my budget. The thing is, here in GA, i could easily get $3-3.5k for it because hobies are more rare than the west coast, or coast in general!

One day i'll own a Hobie Wildcat....one day...

Forestays are bare 7x19 wire that has a single Nicropress sleeve.

That's a coated, double-sleeved wire that I'll bet is 1x19.

It looks like one of the shroud wires. I'll bet that's what they sent you.

That thing looks great! I love the paint job on that thing. Keep it up and send more pics this way.

Why does the leach of the main look so straight? Battens not installed at the time? Xtra cool looking paint job btw.

I guess you need quite a bit of wind to sail on the grass like that, how do you get it to steer? :lol:

Sea-trials are complete!

The boat is stiff as all get-out. Cuts right through waves (strap one hull down on the trailer, you can't even lift the other hull 2 inches)!

Took her out for the first time in about 2-4mph winds (sucky lake) and it just shot off on a broad reach! Need to fine tune some things, like angel the lower mainsheet block about three notches because while hiking out, you have to lift the sheet WAY up to lock it in the cam. Also need to understand how to mount the harken block to the traveler. Any pictures? the mounting stud on the block is to wide to fit in traveler without bending it outwards.

Still waiting on one new shroud (some crazy dealer i order from had a mix-up!) so i couldnt set the shroud tension right, but i was able to go block-to-block on some close haulls.

If you buy an Aussie halyard, make sure you check the knots first, because the main knot on the becket came loose, and the jib fell down, luckily thats why you have a forestay!

We took that opportunity to jump off, and capsize her. She floats and the mast floats too! Perfectly buoyant! Also, need to route the righting line OUTSIDE of the shrouds (my crews mistake when doing the final rigging). We both stood out on the keels, and the boat effortlessly popped right up.

once we got her out of the water, we opened up the drainplugs and saw nothing. Zero water. Everything is perfectly tight and sealed (not to mention the hatch covers in the rear were underwater alot becase of us fat kids sitting on the back)!

I think im going to do a little tightening on the tramp. In the corners, its not perfectly perpendicular and i think i can get it a tad more.....not like it needs to be....maybe i should wait a few years? Who knows...if im feeling spunky...


Overall i'm VERY impressed and so excited. All the work I did in the last year has finally paid off. I cannot wait until saturday when we are going to Christen her "L33t Skilz" and theres supposed to be 10-15mph winds. Then on monday its 20-25 gusting to 30 (I guess because of the hurricane?).

Why does the trailer look like it sits so low?
