So, when I bought my H16, the steel wire section of the halyard was too short. It measured about 11" and was missing a bit more than an inch to be able to lock it in the fork. So I bought a new one from the closest dealer and sent me an H16 comp-tip halyard, but as you can see from the photos, the steel wire section is too short. Do they make one with about 15" of steel wire? If so, anybody have the part number?   Thanks, Marc... |

The old style all aluminum masts used a different halyard. I believe the Hobie part number you are looking for is 20651011 for the main halyard assembly. Hobie has a parts guide for the H16 here: http://2010.archive.hobiecat.com/suppor ... _14-16.pdf Hope this helps. Dave W |

I am bringing my thread back to life. While I look at 3 feet of snow on the ground, I'm lining up my parts to be ready to hit the water this spring. I found a halyard with the right part number (20651011 ), but the picture does not look right:  I was expecting a halyard made with about 60 feet of rope and a 15" steel leader at the end, instead it looks like 30 feet of steel cable. I know the early 16s had the halyard half steel/half rope and the halyard hook was actually at the bottom of the mast. From my earlier pictures, that's I clearly do not need the old style half an half, but also not a comp-tip halyard. Did they post the wrong picture for part #20651011 ? In the Hobie catalog, the half and half halyard should be part #RH316WHT. Thanks, Marc... |

That's the correct replacement halyard for your mast, although it's really only "half" the halyard. You'll need to add about 30' of small diameter line (3/16"or 4 mm) to it after threading it through the masthead. A hint - don't use the thimble when you replace it - just swage a loop in the end of the wire. That way, you can remove it from the mast without cutting off the eye. |

I can't see how that will fit, I don't have a halyard hook at the bottom of the mast. The boat had a comptip halyard when I got it and I know that's wrong. Here is what the comptip halyard looks like when I try to hook it. At the bottom of my mast, all I have it 3 cleats (main halyard, jib halyard and downhaul), plus a block for the jib. There is no hook at the bottom for the halyard, only at the top. So it seems to me I need a halyard with a steel leader that is a few inches longer than the comptip halyard unless I put a stopper on the steel part about 15" from the end. Does Hobie make a halyard assembly comparable to the comp tip with a steel leader that is few inches longer? Thanks, Marc... |

Ok, I see now that there is a stopper in the picture of the all wire halyard, so I would hook it as normal at the top, only difference with what I have now is I'll have more wire and less rope. It's Saturday morning, it's not my best day for thinking. |

Thanks everybody for the help. It's ordered along with other parts. What was confusing me was that the previous owner was using a comptip halyard with an all Al mast. In my head, the halyard was going to look the same except with a few inches extra of steel wire. I never realized it was the half and half halyard until I came across that picture I posted earlier. I had a dealer suggest me to just move the hook up, which I would have considered except that it's starting to fray right next to the nicropress (sp). |
