I launch off the beach at Santa Clara Point in Sail Bay at Mission Bay.

Parking and launch is free, but you need to arrive before noon on weekends to get a good parking spot.

The pic is from last 4th July looking at the launch beach from the bay -

Mission Bay has many beach launching locations. Some with ramps... others straight off the beach on the side of the road (Fiesta Island).

Check the "Places to Sail" forum. There is a map, at the top, of launch sites in the US. Zoom out then over to the west coast... and into Mission Bay. There are a bunch of locations shown: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=10532

Thanks, John & Matt. My reason for asking is I'm thinking about going to Catfigh II and don't want to put my trailer in the water. To my knowledge, this is the last multi-hull regatta of the year in this area and if I can make it, I'd like to. Thanks guys.

No problem... slide the boat off the trailer at the bottom of the ramp and float over to either side of the ramp on to sand at Santa Clara Point... or even El Carmel near the MBYC (Shhhhh... secret spot). I never dip a trailer in salt water. Just stop with the tires touching the water.

Matt & David - Well, the secret is out now. The launch ramp at El Carmel, adjacent to the rowing club and the MBYC. That's my back-up for whenever it gets too crowded at Santa Clara Pl. There's no parking for vehicles with attached trailer at El Carmel, so you'll have to separate the two and take up two parking spots.
I believe the Cat Fight Regatta is Oct 9 & 10. You should have no problem launching and parking at Santa Clara Pl.
You should be able to park inside the MBYC and launch with cat wheels. They should have a set you can borrow.
If you plan on camping (tent or motor home) while you're down here, Campland By The Bay is near-by and has an excellent launching facility - launch ramp, beach, and fresh water hose.
It should be a fun weekend for you. Good luck!
Richard

Thanks guys, You've been a big help. I'm trying to find out now if I can go down, rig the boat on Friday and leave it on the beach overnight. Hoping to hear back from them tomorrow. Thanks again.

From the park rules...

Overnight beaching in Sail Bay is only permitted on Friday and Saturday nights and the night before a City holiday.

You're right again, Matt. Heard from Cathie this morning and she told me to "come on down!" She said many sailors do the same. Thanks again Matt !!! You da man !!! :)
