O.K. Guys, I'm full of questions this week. Does anyone on this forum know if there's a standard length for the trap wire on the H16 ? Was noticing that I can't get adequate leverage to pull myself in because the handle is so low. I mean, I get it done but it seems like having a higher point to pull from (being able to out-stretch my arm) would make it easier. I may have to shorten the ones I have.  And yes, I got these from the dealer. Any advice ???

I cut my old set shorter by about 18". Definately made it easier to get in and out. Bought a swaging tool at the hardware store, cut the old wire a little shorter, and re-swaged the thimble in a little higher. Took 3-5 minutes a side IIRC. I also rigged an adjustable height trap wire so I can get low when on the wire, but get myself up higher when getting in and out. Do a search on this forum for adjustable traps and I think you will find a number of good examples. |

The standard height of the black handle is 32" off the deck, regardless of the model or wings. 32" off the edge you will be sitting on. This places the handle just above your shoulder (in most cases). High enough to lift off the rail to get out, but not so high that you can not reach it when trapezed. |
