I don't understand, what block?

I know of no issues with standard equipment failures on a 16. Maybe a photo would help?

My first guess would be improper rigging placing an unusual load on a part not intended to carry that load.

Hi Matt
Thanks, it was fast...
here is the block, it is attached to the jib with 5mm twisted shakle

That does not look like the block used on a stock system. Looks like the standard H083. You use the "Aussie" jib halyard system right? We use the Harken 099 (Hi Load). Although the strap on top looks the same. I have not seen a strap fail like that before.

Harken is pretty good with warranty. Might want to send a photo on an email to them.

Where are you located? Isreal?

Regardless of the H083 or 099... the top strap of stainless is the same. I suspect an unusual wear of some kind. Especially if this has happened twice in a year?

Matt
I have noticed numerous of failures of H099 in exactly the same manner. All on relatively new boats. I corresponding with Jacques on this issue while you were in China.

I'm checking further to see what Australia has been using on our boats there.

In the meantime... failures of these blocks is a Harken issue. Contact Harken for any warranty issue on them.

Australia uses a Ronstan 3011 (RF3011HL) modified a bit. They have the bearings removed and a sleeve inside the sheave. We will be using those in production when we can get them.
