I finally got a Hobie 16(white hulls, sail# 96384). I just got the registration back (fully registered) and was wondering if it would be OK to put red letters on the hulls, or if they need to be black.

Many states specify black but if using a different color I've never been questioned over it as they are generally appreciative that you have it registered at minimum.

thanks. Georgia's rules are the following:
Number must be painted, applied as a decal, or otherwise affixed to both sides of the bow.
Number must read from left to right on both sides of the bow.
Number must be in at least three-inch-high BLOCK letters.
Number’s color must contrast with its background.
Letters must be separated from the numbers by a space or hyphen: GA 3717 ZW or GA-3717-ZW.
No other numbers may be displayed on either side of the bow.

So the question is whether or not the letters contrast enough and whether or not they are block letters. what is you're opinion?

My opnion (as i live in GA) is dont ruin the look of registration on the boat. Ive never had a problem with the DNR on Lanier or Allatoona...They are too busy catching motorboats. Never seen them mess with a sailboat. Our Hunter 340 is coast-guard certified, so it doesn't have numbers and we are out every weekend....

To be honest with you, I didnt even bother getting the 16 registered. If i ever get "pulled over" by the DNR, Ill just tell them its a South Carolina boat (which apparently doesn't need registration for a Hobie). I don't even have a trailer tag (because SC doesn't require them for small sailboats).
