I read the FAQ and have been in the boat business for over 10 years so I know what a HIN looks like. I have checked the transoms of both hulls. Checked over the forward plyon post on the outboard side of both sides and nothing, nada, nine. No sign of a serial number anywhere. The boat is Older, Blue tops and just a simple black outlined block letter logo on the aft side of each hull. ![]() Any Clues? JOhn ><> |

Some early 70s boats have the HIN engraved directly behind the rudder pin. Very hard to see unless the rudders are off the boat. If the boat's been painted, then the HIN may have been filled in or sanded off. The engraving's not very deep. |

I was busy looking at the exposed portion of the transom thinking this should be easy. Looks like I am the proud owner of a 1974 Hobie 16. Built the same year I graduated from High School (oooops). See, if I were an active sailor in high school, this would have been a brand new boat. So it looks as if I am "Period" correct. ![]() ![]() JOhn ><> |
