I have a new vinyl tramp and have accidentally damaged a very small section ... about a 3 inch by 3 inch square. The tear has not gone right through the tramp but damaged the top layer of the vinyl. It is still held together by the bottom layer of vinyl. What is the best way to patch this in order to strengthen the damaged section so that the bottom layer of vinyl does not tear as well which I imagine will lead to a greater and ongoing problem. PS- I am only in my first year of Hobie ownership... |

Many years ago some vandals knifed my vinyl tramp in several places. I found a camping product called Seamgrip by McNett (used to repair tents, tarps and such). I didn't think it would last very long when I put it on but it was still intact when I sold the boat after two seasons. I cleaned the cuts real good with acetone first. You can find it at Amazon or anywhere online where outdoor or camping supplies are sold. |

My16 tramp was knifed down both sides years ago. I took it to my local sailmaker. He stitched (with Teflon) a 3" thick dacron patch down the both sides, looked like racing stripes, he did a great job, Bob Johnson out of Dunedin Fl. Sailed that boat for 10 yrs, tramp still serviceable when I sold it. |

I have 2 holes in my old tramp. One from a hook on a harness when my son was knocked flat by the boom and another from an overly enthusiastic sewing job on a replacement hiking strap. They sewed it over so many times it cut through the vinyl. Any way I repaired them both 3 seasons ago with a vinyl glue and pieces of an old tramp and they are still holding up fine. Clean the area very well and allow the glue to partially dry before applying the patch. Get it in the correct place the first time, cause when mine stuck, they stuck(if you know what I mean). I am in the Sign and Graphics business and used heavy vinyl banner material patches attached with shoe goo. Seems to be working , my tramp is the original 1979 tramp and has lots of wear but still looks good on top. underneath is patch material so ..... It functions but could use replacing. |
